Star Wars the Old Republic Crafting Tips

By Martin Wilkins

Star Wars the Old Republic, commonly called SWTOR is a massive multi player online game produced by Lucasarts and Bioware. This massively popular game has well over one million players in only a few months time. No other online game of this type has grown so fast and this popularity speaks to the quality of the game and the over all popularity of the entire Star Wars franchise.

One of the more original aspects of this game is the crafting system that is built into this game. Crafting is a way players can make useful in game items for them to use or to sell to other players in the game. Many players use this skill to increase their in game credits and help them play the game with better success.

here are three different skill categories that make up the entire crafting system in SWTOR. Each skill category has more than one option for the player to choose. As players craft items their skill increases which allows them to craft higher and higher level items. Matching the skills from each category allows the player to have different skills for different characters on their account.

The primary category is the Crafting skill category that the player is allowed to choose one skill per character out of six possible choices. The secondary categories are Mission skills and Gathering skills. There are four possible choices per secondary category. Each Crafting skill has two secondary skills that match and allow the player to gather the materials for that particular Crafting skill.

The actual crafting skills include, Armormech, Armstech, Artifice, Biochem, Cybertech and Synthweaving. The game limits each character to only one skill in the crafting group so each character will be able to make only one category of items. This limit makes choosing your crafting skill a very important choice when the time comes.

The Gathering skills are, Archaeology, Bioanalysis, Scavenging, and Slicing. These skills allow a player to find materials as they are playing the game. Each skill will find materials that are usable by certain crafting skills. Choosing a gathering skill is important as you want to match the gathering skill to the crafting skill so you can gather materials that will be usable in your chosen crafting skill.

The missions groups skills are, Diplomacy, Investigation, Treasure Hunting and Underworld Trading. Each of these skills also bring in materials usable for specific crafting abilities. Just like gathering missions skills must be chosen carefully to properly compliment the chosen crafting skill. One advantage to missions skills is the player themselves does not need to take time to actually run the mission but sends a crew member to run the mission for them.

SWTOR crafting is a fun part of the game and the way they have set it up you are able to send your crew companions to perform the actual work of crafting or running missions so you don't have to stop what you are doing and interrupt your game play. If you like playing online games you should look into Star Wars the Old Republic and see what has captured the imaginations of over one million people and growing.
