Play Games And Make Money - Not A Fantasy Job

By Sean T Saunders

If you expect to plop down on your recliner, open a can of coke, eat pizza, and play games with your buddies all day for money, you're delusional. There is not any such job, period. It is true you are able to play video games and earn funds, but it will NEVER be in that scenario described. To play video games and get money -- actual money -- you have to do more than just play the game, you'll have to TEST it!

The Real Work...

If you can get beyond the repetition, then specialized video game testing may be for you. Unfortunately though, most gamers are so used to playing video games for fun, so the notion of playing the same video game (if not the same level) for hours and hours is an swift deal breaker. The boredom rapidly catches up with them and they admit defeat before they make it past their first month. Now, toss in the fact that the tester is continually filling out and filing bug & glitch reports, and you can quickly see why this "profession" is not as glamorous as some people think.

These reports that you are filling out are not all that complex. You simply take note of any glitches and bugs that you noticed while playing your designated levels. Explain what happened, how it happened, and where it happened. The software engineers and coders use this information to locate the game's errors fast. If your "details" are not crystal clear, they'll get lost and won't be able to do their job effectively -- meaning that the blame falls on you. To avert problems, make sure everything is described plainly from the get-go. Be professional, don't use slang and/or teenage-punk lingo.

The Salary

Individuals -- those of whom desire to play games and earn cash -- frequently think that the pay is really little. Even though this might be true for "arcade style games" and gimmicky websites that offer weekly "gaming" competitions, it is not the case for professional game testing. Video game testers can make anywhere from $200 to $600 weekly, depending on the circumstances

Long term video game tester jobs are available, but a lot of the work is on a "per job" basis -- which means you are not guaranteed projects week after week. On the flip side though, this also means you are not "restricted" by any type of schedule and can finish assignments as quickly as you can so that you can increase your earnings. Complete a 5-day, $450 assignment in just 2 days and that equals $225 per day! Pretty good, right?

There's no doubt that you will have lots of enjoyment as you play video games and earn cash -- but you have to realize it is a real job that you'll need to take seriously. After all, if not for game testers, well, the video game business would be in serious trouble.
