Chaning the LED of XBOX 360 and PS3 Controllers

By Bright Noah

Changing the LED lights inside your preferred controller is fairly easy. For each controller you will require a reasonable electrical power soldering iron, 60/40 rosin, a sponge, a pair of pointed tweezers, and your brand-new LEDs. You could utilize a greater electrical power iron, but it is safer to start with a reasonable watt so you prevent possibly destroying your motherboard. To open a 360 controller, you will require a t8 screwdriver. A small Phillips head screwdriver is used for the ps3. When taking the screws out of the 360 controller there is a hidden screw discovered inside the battery pack terminal behind the oblong shaped bar code sticker.

To start you will need to tin the soldering iron. This just means to melt rosin on the iron then cleanse it off with your sponge. When cleaning the iron, I discovered it works most effectively to obtain the sponge somewhat wet on one side. I such as to cleanse the iron after each action to raise contact.

Once you have the screws taken out there are a few steps you will wish to avoid breaking your controller case. To take apart the xbox 360 controller, you will have to push in the thumbsticks and delicately tear the controller apart. To prevent losing any of your buttons, I recommend applying a strip of tape to the front of the controller to hold everything in place. After you have done this, you will need to pull the rubber thumb sticks off their system, extract the motherboard, and set every little thing aside so you don't lose anything.

The PS3 controller is rather simpler to dismantle. When you have the screws eliminated, you will simply pull the two halves apart. Following, you will pull the rubber joysticks off, and pull the tab that connects the R's and L's off their clip. You are now prepared to get rid of the old lights from the motherboard.

To eliminate the LEDs, I such as to use a strategy called drifting. To do this, you will have to melt some rosin on the iron until it makes a little bubble on the iron itself. It might appear like it is going to fall off, however do not stress, it will remain on the iron. As soon as you have this done, you will float the bubble backward and forward throughout the LED to eliminate it. This will most likely take simply a few seconds and the LED will stay with the rosin. Then you will just clean the iron off and duplicate the process for each light.

Applying the new LEDs is a little more difficult than taking them off. First, you will need to consider the bottom of the new LED and determine which side the arrow on the bottom is pointing. You will have to point the arrow toward the adverse side of the motherboard. If you could not figure this out, turn the power to the controller on and the LED will brighten if you have actually correctly lined it up. I such as to leave the battery pack and the back half of the controller linked. This is so I could make use of the contact pad to turn the controller on. For the ps3, you can simply plug in the charging cable. As soon as you have straightened them properly, you will use your tweezers to hold the LED in place and simply include a little rosin to both side and you are done. It may spend some time however a little practice will make things a whole lot easier. Now you prepare to display your recently light controller with your favorite color lights!
