What Happened When My Console Developed The PS3 YLOD Error

By Jani Chaisty

When my PlayStation developed the PS3 yellow light of death I was at my wits end. I was on the phone to Sony a lot quicker than a rat up a drain pipe but I soon started to rue my behavior.

They needed $150 plus my first born to repair the challenge and I didn't have either! The real body blow came, though, when cool as you like they slipped into the discussion that they would be keeping hold of my baby for up to 8 weeks - man thats like enough time to play a whole level of Assassins Creed (all right I am not very great at it - too much bouncing for my liking) - something else had to be done. Anyway, I wasn't prepared to wait that long or hand out that much cash, so I hit the net and looked for ways to handle the problem myself. And guess what? It turns out that repairing the PS3 yellow light error is in fact a lot easier than you may think. Yes, you do need to peer into the dim realms of the inside of your PS3 but once you know what to do, its not really that frightening a place. .

However, I had never even seen the inside of my beloved gaming system and the thought of just diving in and tearing its guts out filled me with fear. Luckily, I found a new guidebook by a specialist repair guy called Rob Sheffield, that demonstrated the exact measures needed to fixing the issue. His downloadable e-book, which only costs the price of your typical PS3 game, came to the rescue and I was thrilled to start getting the problem fixed. A quick glance through the guide told me that I had made a excellent choice - despite the fact that I 'm a complete techno-phobe I could still make sense of his suggestions. After about half an hour or so of studying I was good to go. In the guide Rob told me how the repair would only take approximately one hour - but I have to say I didn't believe this. Turns out, though, that he was right - at least he would have been if I had read the instructions right. Turns out I made a small, but time consuming mistake, but, after watching the video - did I mention you get online video help as well - ok you do - I has the problem back under control .

Repair done, I put my gaming console back together once again and held my breath before the big bang. I pushed the power switch and - nothing - well no bang anyway! Nothing other than a cool green light and those comforting start-up noises. Within another few minutes my PS3 was firing on all cylinders and I was the most happy game lover alive - well aside from the guy who just completed Assassins Creed - and what's more I was over $100 in pocket!

To mis-quote telly course instructors - dont try this alone folks. The maintenance is challenging, but it can be done - even by a total dork like me. If you can read, and even if you can't - word of advice - just view the videos - you'll be able to correct the horrible problem quicker than you can load your typical copy of Assassins Creed. Your PS3 may be a trustworthy family member but it sometimes requires a bit of tough love to bring it back on-side. Dont lavish your dollars on it by permitting Sony to caress its internal workings - just go low cost and do it yourself. I hate shelling out my funds, and I hate passing it on to big business a lot more - so do as I do and go the cheapskate method. You do not need to be Yoda to see the wisdom in that path - just acquire a copy of Rob's guide and set your busted PS3 free from the spell of the yellow light.
