Star Wars: The Old Republic has a vast array of classes available for players to choose from. For a new player, the choice can be overwhelming. For many, the first step is choosing which faction or side you want to play on. Do you want to be a part of the Sith Empire or the Galactic Republic? The Galactic Republic is the good side, while the Sith Empire is the bad side. Picture the Troopers or Jedi when you think about the Galactic Republic.
If you are having trouble choosing a faction, looking at each one's class choices may help. The class you choose will determine your role in a group. If a particular class seems appealing, go with that faction. If you are, instead, having problems choosing a class, first pick an allegiance. From there, determine whether or not you want to be dealing damage, healing or tanking. Each one has a special role. Tanks will be expected to protect the party, healers are in charge of keeping everyone alive and damage dealers (DPS) are only required to deal damage to enemies.
So, after you have decided what role you want to take on and which faction you want to play on, you can then choose a class. If you want to play tank on the Sith Empire side, you can choose from the Bounty Hunter, Sith Inquisitor or Sith Warrior class. Interestingly enough, classes inside the SWTOR galaxy can take on more than one role if needed. For example, the Sith Warrior can be specialized to be a tank or a great damage dealer. For players who want take on the healing role, they may choose to be a Sith Inquisitor or Bounty Hunter. The Sith Inquisitor is a hybrid class and take on the role of a healer, tank or damage dealer. Even though classes can take on different roles, they always have one in which they are best suited for.
Not surprisingly, the Jedi Knight is one of the most played Star Wars: The Old Republic class. This probably has a lot to do with the fact that the Jedi Knight is based off of the Jedis in the film and people enjoy the idea of wielding a light saber. Jedi Knights are great tanks and damage dealers. Those who like to play solo will find the Jedi Knight can easily take on and eliminate any enemy that comes their way. They are especially successful at fighting off the Sith Warrior.
