By Doss Aarodviss

Contrary to the commonly held belief that online gaming came into existence only in the 1990s, it has actually been around since the 1960s. The growth of online games paralleled the growth of networking technologies. When they were first introduced, online games were limited to text-based interactions and simple graphics but as network technologies became more complex, multimedia games have become widely available as well.

The earliest network games were made by computer scientists and their students. They used the Arpanet and PLATO networks, which many believe are the precursors of the modern Internet. Even then, those networks were able to support thousands of users who are simultaneously playing the games that were popular in that time such as Air Fight and Star Trek.

Commercial Internet games grew rapidly in number with the introduction of the World Wide Web in the 1990s. Doom, Quake, and War Craft were the most popular games in that decade. With the increasing availability of high-speed, low-cost Internet, and powerful gaming consoles and computers, modern online gaming came into existence. Eventually, massively multiplayer online games revolutionized the industry, and many developers jumping into the bandwagon to offer game titles of such sort. Today, social networking websites have become another platform where people can play games, effectively transforming many in the non-gaming population into avid gamers.

One kind of online game that remains very popular these days is racing online games. Some of the games developed in the sixties and the seventies involved a racing component. Racing games typically place the player in the driver's seat of a high-performance vehicle and the goal of the player is to race against other drivers, or to beat his own record. With advancements in computer, gaming console, and Internet technology, playing online racing games have become an even bigger hit.

Racing games are extremely popular because they are interesting and thrilling. In addition to that, these games also enable us to drive and modify the cars which we could only dream of in real life. Many game developers these days strive to give their customers a realistic experience while playing these games. For example, there are games which will give a visual representation of how it would look like if you sped up. Recent game titles even have physics engines which bring about handling issues whenever you crash your car. There is also a number of racing online games, so getting one made for your level of skill is easy. Racing games are extremely fun to play because your actions and choices can really affect the outcome of the game. You will also see changes in the game as you become more skillful, which makes it even more engaging. No matter your age, you will find playing racing online games definitely worth it.
