Most role playing games have them whether they are online or not. This profession or job consists of gathering materials that would otherwise be used for crafting items. Unfortunately, crafting professions typically waste more money than they generate until the max level has been reached. Just remember that not everyone knows that and there will be a lot of people that will need these materials. So, gather as much as you can through farming and missions. Companions can also gather for you, but most people find more success from doing it themselves. The game has four gathering skills: Bioanalysis, Slicing, Scavenging and Archaeology. Archaeology is a neat skill that allows the player to find imbued items such as ancient artifacts and Lightsaber crystals. The Scavenging skill allows players to pick up parts or materials from old and broken technology. Bioanalysis is the collection of genetic materials from plants and creatures. The Slicing skill gives you access to lockboxes and other secured computer systems, which often contain schematics and other valuable data. Slicing is typically the most profitably of all the gathering skills. If you find that you don't really like this profession, you can still find success by heavily farming other gathering skills. After you have a good amount of materials, you can then sell them on the Galactic Trade Network (GTN).
Loot, Loot, Loot: It should go without saying - loot every single item you can. Remember even junk has value! Take all of the "junk" and send your companions off to sell it for you. They'll make more money than you would doing it yourself.
Complete Daily Space Missions/Quests: Make sure you complete all the daily quests as they can earn you a nice amount of credits. Rinse and repeat everyday!
Participate in Warzones: Warzones, or PvP, will also earn you some nice credits. In addition, you'll also be earning valor, experience, and commendations.
Examine the Economy of Your Server: Every server's economy is unique. Check yours out and see what's lacking. Chances are, there's a demand that you can meet with just a little effort. A good place to start is to think about items that you need or needed during the leveling process. Finding which items are in demand, but lacking can really earn you a lot of credits. You suddenly become the sole supplier and always have a market to sell to.
