The Staying Power Of Tower Defense Games

By Adrian Cambell

In an industry that is constantly advancing it takes a lot for any game to have any kind of staying power at all. Tower defense games have been popular in the gaming community for more than two decades. The aim of this pastime is to place your towers in such a way so that you prevent the enemy from progressing to the finishing line.

If too many enemy troops make it through to the finishing line then you would be defeated. Over the years players started to favour different approaches and plans. They would then us the strategy that works best for them in order to win the most points possible and progress rapidly through the game.

How to go about Understanding The Game A Bit Better. The most popular form of this castle defense game would be the one which allows players some control over the course or track that the opposing forces will follow. A less popular version does not allow players any control over this and the last version of this game would be a combination of both of these. There are versions of this game that include opposing forces that are both on land and in the air.

The objective of the game is to station your defense towers optimally so that they can take out as many opponents as possible. Finding the best strategy is crucial if you wish to do well at this game. A well liked strategy is referred to as the mazing strategy. You would basically create a maze that opponents will have to go through when trying to get to the finishing line. This maze strategy will give you an excellent opportunity to take out a majority of the opposition and win the game.

Many players also use the juggling strategy to advance through the game. This strategy is considered by many to be a lot more effective than the mazing strategy. You would basically block each exit before the opponents can get through it and this would cause the opponent to pace up and down in the same area until your towers have beaten each of them.

When you successfully complete any level you would be rewarded with points. You can use this point to purchase additional new towers. You can also use the points to upgrade the towers that you already own.

This game is not only enjoyable but also great brain exercise. This strategic and logical way of thinking stimulates your left brain and the creative problem solving required is a great activity for your right brain. It is stimulating and challenging and this is usually what keeps players coming back for more year after year.

The staying power of these tower defense games is owed to the fact that they are stimulating, interesting and fun to play. The objective of the games is not difficult to grasp so players can truly get into enjoying the game quite soon after discovering it. Modern day gaming developers can truly learn from these tried and true classics. It is definitely not an easy feat to stay relevant year after year in such a fast paced industry.
