level faster in Star Wars The Old Republic

By Emogene Aun

The MMO genre was turned upside down this year when Star Wars The Old Republic was introduced. The storyline is quite interesting and the players are amazing, but the grind is extremely boring. Leveling is as bland as can be and it never gets much better. I was upset to find that this is still the same in SWTOR, so I picked up a guide to help me ease my way through the grind. It was amazing how fast I leveled.

Personally, I always find it best to use a strategy guide in a new game. Not only do you get a head start and level faster, but you don't have to spend months to hit the max level. While most people don't mind the grind, I have limited time that I can play. Guides allowed me to level to 50 in just two short days and be able to gear up my toon in an optimal manner. I haven't been able to play as much as some people, but every time I do play it is done in a very efficient manner. Instead of wasting time on mundane tasks, I am able to gear up and play with my friends.

How a SWTOR guide helped my progression

If you have ever played another MMO, the leveling is pretty much the same. Kill a certain amount of these, pick up this, collect that and it gets boring. A guide showed me where all of my quest mobs were, how to get to them and where they spawned. While other players were searching for mobs, I was finishing my quests. It was a great feeling. Before I looked at my guide, I was stuck looking for mobs and dying a lot. The guide I used covered all of the quests, bosses and spawn points for easy leveling. It allowed me to make the most out of my very limited time. SWTOR does have a pretty good system for quests, but it is nothing compared to the details the guide had.

Leveling is often much harder because you don't know the right build for your toon. While there are many decent ones, there is always one that will push out the most damage or healing. This allows you to kill mobs much easier and not die. If you are a group player, tanking and healing is also much easier with the right build. If a different specialization was chosen, I wouldn't have leveled quite as fast.

How many times have you had to run around in an MMO and find materials for your professions. This is fun for the first few seconds, but gets old very fast. SWTOR has crew skills that are essentially crafting and gathering skills combined into one. They even added quests for these, but they are still time consuming to level. However, I was able to figure out how to level them quickly and knew where all of the resources were located. I would send my companions out to gather everything for me, while I continued to level. It made everything much faster and easier.

Warzones were also much easier. I am a PvP junkie and spend a ton of time trying to become the best in my class. However, I learned some vital strategies for killing my foes and easily dominated everyone I came across. It was great to jump in and feel like I have been playing for years
