Limited Budgets And Making A Top Video Game

By Sakis Mavromatis

When it comes to top video games today, a whopper budget is required to get them into production and some of these budgets are more than the cost of making an average Hollywood movie; however, it is understandable when you think of the money that these games make for the developers.

The production teams are getting larger and larger and with the improvements in graphics the top games involve much more than a full on joystick thrashing.

The cut scenes in most new games play exactly like a movie and they are there to purely add a storyline or plot to the action which helps immerse the player. So you would wonder is there any way that smaller game development companies can compete with the huge developers like Activision and Blizzard?

Well the only way the smaller software house can compete with the top computer game and video game makers is to find a niche and get people hooked. On Facebook alone there are a number of games that people are playing continuously where they will pretend to be a gangster or they will run their own farm. With many of these games having been created on a limited budget, it is great to see how successful they have become and how profitable.

If you wanted to create your own video game then you should consider the mobile phone market and with many phones these days being run on the Android platform, you would not have to worry about huge licences. So is it possible to start making hit games from your bedroom?

The truth of the matter is that yes you can make great games if you have a good idea and know how to make flash games because then you could end up with something like Tetris that has actually gone down in history.
