We Are Now Getting 3D For Home Brew Games

By Judy Finlayson

One of the most popular gaming devices available on the market these days is the Nintendo DS and improvements have seen us with the DSi and now the 3DS with its innovative technology. Home brew games are now becoming more and more popular because of their ability to take advantage of the 3D technology.

There have been for years cartridges that allow the user to use their own Kernel or a Kernel that has been designed to avoid certain security features of the handheld that Nintendo had put in place. With an alternative Kernel, the user is able to play media files such as movies from an SDHC or SD card and now these Kernels are working with the 3DS.

Nintendo are not happy about the use of these Kernels to bypass the security put in place in their units but one thing they must be happy about is the fact that these Kernels are giving the actual handheld units a wider appeal.

The biggest problem with the Kernels is that a lot of people are having a hugely negative impact on the gaming industry because they are using them only to download pirate games.

Adding new features only adds to the appeal of Nintendo and with developers being able to code these home brew games, more and more people are going to need the 3DS. You might even want to consider the possibility that Nintendo are not doing anything about the use of alternative Kernels on purpose; surely there must be a way for them to stop this after so many years on the market.

We may soon see the Nintendo 3DS becoming the most popular handheld device on the market with its stable mates being put firmly in the shade; we can be sure that it will go down in history anyway. Because Nintendo have invested so much in the DS and have added so many new features, we can be sure that they will play a major role in the 3D market for quite some time to come.
