A Winning Strategy For Free Cell Solitaire

By Eric Stafford

FreeCell Solitaire, unlike other variations of the game, is more often won with skill than luck. If you employ the correct strategies and make the proper plays, you can win a majority of the games. There are very few initial deals that cannot be solved. Winning the game requires you to use your skills to identify the proper moves.

Your chances of winning a particular game depends largely on the strategy you choose to employ. By using the strategies outlined in this article you will dramatically increase your winning percentage.

The most obvious moves are not necessarily the ones to make. You must take time to view the tableau prior to making a move. You must try to see the board a few moves in advance.

Your initial priority should be to move the Aces to the home cells. It is imperative to identify and locate deeply buried Aces in order to free them so you may move them to the home cell.

Be careful not to fill all of the free cells. This will greatly inhibit your moves and diminish your chances of winning. You must retain as many free cells as possible. This will allow you more room to make moves throughout the game. Only utilize a free cell as a last resort move when you are positive there are no others.

As with free cells, free tableau piles are extremely important to your success in the game. As an empty tableau can be employed to house a string instead of a single card, it makes the importance of availing them great. Further, it doubles the length of a string that is able to be moved to one tableau from the other.

Place runs of descending cards that begin with a king into a free tableau space whenever the move presents itself.

Keep the home cells open as long as you can. You will find you often require these cards later in the game to move other suits of low cards.

Sometimes you will find a deal that you can beat quickly and with little effort. Many times, however, the deals present bigger challenges. As with any skill based game, it takes time to build your skills to identify which moves you should be making and when. Keep practicing and you will find your winning percentage increasing with your affinity for the game.
